Harry Redknapp linked with sensational switch to become Black Stars coach

Harry Redknapp is in line to become the next coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars. The former Tottenham and West Ham boss, 70, has applied for the chance to succeed Avram Grant in charge of the Black Stars.

Ex-Chelsea, Hammers and Portsmouth manager Grant stepped down after Ghana’s failure at the African Nations Cup in January.

Redknapp is now battling Middlesbrough cult hero Fabrizio Ravanelli, 48, for the vacancy.

A Ghanaian FA source revealed the pair are on a five-man shortlist, together with Frenchman Patrice Carteron and local-born duo James Appiah and Karim Abdul Razak.

Redknapp has also managed Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Southampton and QPR and he has previously been in the frame for the England job.

But the East Londoner has not been afraid of working abroad, and had a two-game stint in charge of the Jordan national side last year.

Ravanelli, nicknamed the White Feather, spent the 1996-97 season with Boro and he also played for Derby and Dundee.

The former Juventus striker later coached the Turin club’s youth team before managing French side Ajaccio.
