Horse racing: Mr K bounces back Saturday
Veteran jockey Joseph Lamptey will continue his revival as he inches closer to the national champion jockey title when horse racing activities bounce back at the Accra Turf Club (ATC) tomorrow.
Lamptey, who currently leads the jockey championship chart with 13 wins, is expected to ride the famous ‘Mr K’ to clinch the top spot in the Division 3B race just as he dazzled his opponents and spectators at the same venue two months ago.
The competition, dubbed “Ramadan Races” will see both old and newly-licensed jockeys such as Ebenezer Ampah, S.T. Madu, Jonathan Mensah, Charles Ampah, E A Dery, Illiasu Sulley, Richard Amoah and John Adjetey, among others, battle for honours.
According to the organisers, 14 new horses will line up for the Maidens Division and they include Thunder Storm, Biscuit, Blessing, Secretary, Lady Secret, Sugar, Mariama, Nine Eleven, Good Name, Lady Secret, Abokyi and Dante who will run over a distance of five furlongs (1000 metres).
Rule of Law, Young Man, Korle Gonno Boy, Omoni Olee, Marie Cruz and Shatter will compete other in the Division 4C are also expected to compete over a distance of six furlongs (1200 meters) while High Rise Avaro, Let Them Say, Ghana’s Pride, Bonanza and Zaza will settle scores in the Division 4B event.
Horses such as Sea Never Dry, Hajia, I Thank God, General Salute, Fresh Boy, Who Is Free and Copter chase will compete in the Division 3B race over six furlongs for the ultimate prize.
According to Mr Samuel Turkson, Board Secretary of ATC, tomorrow’s event will attract a gate fee of GH¢2 and will start at 1:30 pm.
