Horse racing: Whitsun Race Meeting Saturday

The Accra Turf Club begins its Whitsun Race Meeting this Saturday, April 16 with four races open to horses in divisions 4C, 4A, 3B and novices to be run under the distinguished patronage of His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana.

The first race of the day, which begins at 1.30 pm, will feature five horses in Division 4C competing over a distance of six furlongs.

The horses are Let Them Say, owned by Mr Issaka Yartey, Rule of Law by Mr Philip Amuzu, Young Man also owned by Philip Amuzu, Korle Gonno Boy by Jara Stable and Omo Ni Ole by Nii Yemo Odoi.

 

In the second race, open to horses in Div 4A over fivefurlongs, Mr Samuel Bampoe’s Copta and Alhaji Amartei Issifu’s Yobibioo (Mona Lisa) are among the runners.

The others are Fresh Boy, owned by Denis O. Ahinakwa, I Thank God by Prof Nii K. Owoo and Who Is Free, owned by Nuru Pardie.

The third race, an Invitation Race for Div 3B horses over seven furlongs, has Hajia, owned by Miss E. Fanny W. Mills, leading the pack.

Other runners are Mr K., owned by Dr Omar Sattout, Sly Mongoose, owned by Jacob A. Dinsey, Baafira by Mr Bilal Malawi, Marie Cruz by Nii Yem Odoi, High Rise by Andrews Otoo and Sea Never Dry, also owned by Dr Omar Sattout.

The last race of the day, a five- furlong outing for horses in their maiden appearance, dubbed Novices, will include Diplomatic Lady, owned by Mr Nicolas A Ofoli, ABOKYE by Mr Rex Brobbey and Lady Secret by Mr Philip Amuzu.

The rest are Sugar, owned by Hon B. Alema, Sea Bird, owned by Nana, Shatter belonging to Mr Emmanuel Kofie and General Salute owned by Godwin N.A. Quaye Jr.

According to the Board of Stewards of the turf club, gate fees will attract only GH¢2.00 and fans are expected to turn up in their numbers.
