Immigration jump into second spot - In Table Tennis League
Defending Champions Immigration have stepped up the chase on Table Tennis League leaders Tesano Spinners after leapfrogging SmartLine@Emefs into second place following 3-0 wins over Western Table Tennis Club and Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) last Saturday at the D.G. Hathiramani Sports Hall of the Accra Stadium.
In thrilling fixtures staged in the presence of some veterans of the game, including Ghana Table Tennis Federation president, Mawuko Afadzinu, the Stanbic Bank/Graphic Sports-sponsored competition came alive with exciting performances as Immigration raised the level of their game to record impressive victories.
They have amassed 40 points after 14 games (same as SmartLine@Emefs who have 40 points) but trail leaders Spinners by two points after 14 games.
Spinners beat Team Baboo 3-1 in the first match of the day and penultimate week in the first round.
In other first round matches, Army thrashed Madina Stars 3-0, Police beat Navy 3-0, SmartLine@Emefs defeated Fire Service 3-0, GRA won 3-1 against Kings Royal Academy (KRA), Ashanti Otumfuo Stars beat Team Coach Addo 3-0 and Eastern Loopers made a 3-0 light work of Synergy Table Tennis Club.
In the second round matches, Western lost 0-3 to SamrtLine@Emefs, Police beat KRA 3-1, Fire smashed Synergy 3-0 and Ashaiman Club were beaten 3-0 by the Ghana Navy.
The rest of the matches saw Loopers beat Coach Addo 3-0, Otumfuo Stars won 3-2 against Madina Stars, Army beat Team Baboo 3-0 and GRA were 3-1 victors against Team Baboo.
The women’s league saw SmartLine@Emefs beat Madina Stars 3-1, Navy defeated Otumfuo Stars 3-1, Army thrashed Western Table Tennis Club 3-0, Police lost 1-3 against GRA and Spinners beat Immigration 3-0.
