Kenpong warns against FA boss’s removal

Kennedy ‘Cappuccino’ Agyapong, chairman of Kenpong Group of Companies, has made a passionate appeal to the football fraternity to exercise restraint in their agitation for the removal of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi.

Speaking to the media in Accra, Agyapong appealed to those calling for Nyantakyi’s head to wait for the next GFA election.

He argued that the GFA president could not be blamed entirely for the Black Stars’ failure at this year’s World Cup; citing the delay of the team’s bonuses which led to a revolt in camp as a classical case.

“Some of the players should be blamed too. They were not ready to sacrifice and even show respect to the likes of Stephen Appiah as it was all about money, and they finally let us down,” he stated.

He said taking the law into one’s own hands to topple the FA boss would amount to government interference and would incur the displeasure of FIFA to suspend Ghana just like Nigeria.

The former Asante Kotoko board member said, “I would like to plead with persons calling for Nyantakyi’s head to be patient with him to continue in office till the next election in 2015.”

“Our excellent performances in our previous World Cups have made Ghanaian players very attractive, so foreign clubs chase them, making our leagues weaker by the day.

“In the 90s, we had great players such as Abedi, Tony, Ali Ibrahim, Damba and co. but we couldn’t make it to the world stage. Some have argued that the current generation is doing well because of the financial backing. We shouldn’t forget that if you inherit billions of cedis and you don’t handle it with care, you can easily lose it,” he said.
