Migrants excel at weightlifting championship

The Migrants Weightlifting Club of the Ghana Immigration Service last Saturday won the "Best Club" award after winning four gold medals at the Indomie Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championship at the Accra Stadium.

Migrants’ Sandra Agban and Adi Kokuvi won the U-14 girls and boys category, David Akwei triumphed in the boys’ U-17 division, and Anetu Aryee and Emmanuel Aryee shone in the girls and boys U-10 categories respectively.

In the U-14 boys and U-17 girls categories, Adi Kokuvi and Faustina Awutey from Titans finished tops. Dorinda Obeng finished second, while Mary Aryee placed third in the U-14 girls division, with Stephen Coffie and Richmond Aryee occupying the second and third positions in the U-14 boys division respectively.

Emmanuel Boateng and Abraham Adjei finished second and third in the U-17 boys category, Asiatu Addy and Doris Afful completed the U-10 girls division as second and third, while Bridget Emefa and Judith Acheampong finished second and third in the U-17 girls division.

Addressing the participants, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Nii Lantey Vanderpuije, lauded the initiative of the  Ghana Weightlifing Federation (GWF), saying "developing the interest of the sport at the tender age is key."

He urged athletes to train hard to be able to win laurels for the nation in the future.

The president of the GWF, Ben Nunoo Mensah, assured of maximum support to help nurture the talents for the future.
