Minister calls for new reward scheme
The Minister for Youth and Sports, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye believes the structural policy relating to the payments of bonuses to the various national teams is only benefiting a few.
Speaking in the aftermath of the failure of the Ghana national U-20 team, the Black Satellites to qualify for the African Youth Championship, Nii Lantey argued that “As a country there are some things we need to change. Why should the Black Stars be given winning bonuses for every match while teams such as Satellites receive only qualification bonuses"?
"We should come together and agree that each and every national sports athlete, irrespective of your discipline, should also enjoy exactly as any other sports personnel is enjoying and it should be changed now" he added.
The Minister further declared that the structure was affecting performances of players and other athletes, who were not financially gaining as the Black Stars.
