The Minister for Inner City and Zongo Development, Dr Mustapha Hamid, has commended Wembley Sports Construction Company Limited for their commitment to the development of football in the country.

Dr Hamid made this pronouncement during the handing over of an astroturf facility at Kibi in the Eastern Region by the CEO Wembley Sports Construction Company Limited, Robert Coleman, to the Inner City and Zongo Development Ministry.

Speaking at the event, Dr Hamid encouraged the Zongo Communities to reward President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his efforts in developing the Zongos.

“The president H.E Nana. Akuffo Addo is more committed to developing the Zongos and in his second term, the Zongos will see even greater development. For his commitment to the Zongos, we must reward him.

“I will also urge the people of the Zongos to make judicious use of the facilities to produce even greater talents than the likes of Dogo Moro, Sulley Muntari, Baba Yara, Abedi Pele, Mohammed Gargo, among other great players that have come from the Zongos,” he said.

The contractor of the project, Robert Coleman, who is excited about the adoption of the ‘One Constituency One AstroTurf’ by the government, says it’s his dream to see artificial turf in every corner of the country.

“I’m excited that we are gradually making impact in the country, when we started there were just two artificial turfs at Prampram and Tema but today you can count about 50 and it’s our dream to see at least one in each of the 275 constituencies,” Coleman said.

The occasion saw other dignitaries such as the Member of Parliament for the Abuakwa South Constituency and Minister for Works and Housing, Samuel Ata Akyea witnessing the opening of the facility who encouraged the people within his constituency to implore the right maintenance culture to ensure that the facility is kept in good shape.
