MTN FA Cup: Home Stars FC stun Legon Cities to advance  

Division One side Home Stars FC delivered a sensational upset in the MTN FA Cup on Saturday, knocking out Premier League outfit Legon Cities FC in the Round of 64.

The thrilling match, held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, ended in heartbreak for Legon Cities after a 92nd-minute goal sealed their fate.  

Tactical masterstroke  

The Ho-based Home Stars FC displayed resilience throughout the encounter, holding their top-tier opponents to a goalless draw during regulation time. 

The game’s turning point came in the second half when coach Christian Chibueze made crucial substitutions to bolster his team’s attack.  

One such substitution proved decisive when Joseph Tei capitalised on a counter-attack in added time. Receiving a well-placed cross from the right flank, Tei slotted home a clinical finish at the near post, sparking wild celebrations among the Home Stars FC players and fans.  

Drama in the final minutes  

Legon Cities FC, struggling to assert their dominance, were reduced to 10 men in the 88th minute after a player was sent off for a second bookable offence. The red card further tilted the balance in favour of the spirited Division One side.  

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Legon Cities fought valiantly but could not recover from the late strike, sealing their elimination from the competition.  

With their impressive victory, Home Stars FC now advance to the Round of 32 in the MTN FA Cup, further establishing their reputation as a team capable of competing with the best.  

The defeat marks a disappointing early exit for Legon Cities, highlighting the unpredictable nature of knockout football.
