Mumin shows class in Cowbell Cycling League

River Park Kumasi Cycling Club’s Abdul Razak Abdul Mumin last Saturday won the 2015 Cowbell Cycling League by finishing safely in the final stage criterium on the Mantse Agbonaa circuit.

Clement Kusi of River Park Sunyani won the third and final stage of the competitive three-day road race after 20 high-speed laps over an 80-kilometre distance. He beat his teammate Anthony Boakye and Ali Stephen to second and third, respectively.

However, it was the 25-year-old bicycle mechanic, Mumin— winner of stage two, —who hogged the spotlight by winning the red (Best Fighter), green (Best by Points) and coveted yellow (Best by Time) jerseys. He completed the three-day event in a time of seven hours, 20 minutes and one second, which included a superb ride on day two where he completed a five-minute break-away in the tortuous Accra-Mamfe-Accra stage.

For his impressive display which placed him in a good stead as an heir-apparent to his deceased colleague, Samuel Anim, Mumin was presented with cash prizes totalling GH¢ 4,000, a gold medal, trophies, as well as products and branded cycling gear from event sponsors, Cowbell Ghana Limited.

In an interview after the race, Mumin paid tribute to the late Anim, describing him as a champion he hopes to emulate by retaining the title next year.

The white jersey, reserved for the Best Young Cyclist, was presented to 18-year-old Velo Stars rider, Frank Akuffo, who was peerless among the youngsters in the competition, retaining the jersey for all three days of riding. He took home a cash prize of GH¢ 500, a trophy, as well as products and branded cycling gear from Cowbell Ghana Limited.

The overall Best by Time Team blue jersey was presented to a sextet representing River Park Sunyani Cycling Club who took home a GH¢1,500 cash prize, a trophy as well as Cowbell products and branded cycling gear.
