The two athletes won two medals each over the weekend and improved on their time during the Dessert Challenge competition in the USA to book a spot for the big competition.

Speaking to the Graphic Sports after securing qualification, Nkegbe said their motive was to grab a slot at next month’s world championship in London and they were very happy and proud to have achieved that.

Not only did the duo secure qualification, but also finished with improved times as well.

"Maclean set a new national record in the 100m category by wining bronze with a time of 16:24 seconds from the current record of 16:26 seconds," said Botsyo said.

Maclean also won bronze in the 1,500m race in the T53 category.

Botsyo also grabbed silver and bronze in the 1,500m and 200m races of the T54 category with a personal best time of 15:24 seconds in the 100m race.

The para-athlete thanked their sponsors, India Women Association, Interplast Ghana and Ms Zanetor Rawlings, MP for the Klottey Korle Constituency, for their immense support.

Ghana was the only Africa country that competed in the Desert Challenge which featured competitors from top countries like USA, Canada and Mexico.
