Nyantakyi to represent Hayatou at CONCACAF Congress

The president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, has been appointed by the CAF president, Issa Hayatou, to represent Africa at the CONCACAF Congress which takes place this week in Bahamas.

Mr Nyantakyi’s appointment is the latest of a number of high-profile duties assigned the GFA president in world football circles since joining the CAF Executive Committee four years ago.

His latest appointment comes just days after he was re-elected unopposed to serve another four-year term on CAF's Executive Committee.

The Spokesperson of the GFA, Ibrahim Sannie Daara, who confirmed this to the Daily Graphic, said Mr Nyantakyi is expected to travel to Bahamas tomorrow for the two-day event slated for Nassau.

He said the FA president would on behalf of CAF, address the highest football decision body for North and Central America on Wednesday and Thursday with a message of solidarity.

“The decision by Mr Hayatou to appoint the Ghanaian to attend the congress of the Confederation, representing all the countries in North and Central America, shows how Nyantakyi is highly regarded among the top hierarchy of African football,” Mr Daara pointed out.

He said Nyantakyi, who is also the President of the West African Football Union (WAFU), had made a massive impact on Africa's football governing body, hence his nomination by Hayatou to represent him.

This year's CONCACAF Congress is loaded with important activities and intense lobbying as the FIFA presidential election is scheduled for next month in Zurich.

Last month, Mr Nyantakyi was appointed by FIFA to lead a delegation to resolve an impasse in Kenya football.
