Ping Pong: Immigration beat Prisons
The Ghana Immigration Service mens’ table table tennis team last Saturday defeated their Prisons counterparts 3-0 in the final of a special knockout ping pong ahead of the new league season.
An exciting event staged at the D.G.Hathiramani Sports Hall of the Accra Stadium, it saw a record participation of 16 ping pong clubs nationwide.
The Immigration quartet of Derek Abrefa, Felix Lartey, Emmanuel Commey and Emmanuel Asante overpowered a strong Prison side made up of crack players such as Adolf Awotwe, Jacob Saikun, Michael Debrah and Oscar Forson to lift the ultimate that attracted a cash prize GH¢800.
Prisons received GH¢600, while third and fourth- placed Fire Service and Kings Royal respectively were rewarded with GH¢400 cash each.
In the female category,the Ghana Navy trio of Bernice Borquaye, Dorothy Obuobi and Linda Mensah survived a late charge from Augustina Badu, Georgina Hackman and Stella Yeboah of the Ghana Revenue Authority (Customs Division) to win 3-2 in the final to grab a cash prize of GH¢800.
The Ghana Army placed third while Immigration came fourth with the players receiving GH¢400.
The president of the Ghana Table Tennis Association, Mawuko Afadzinu, who sponsored the competition, charged the players to put up a good show during the league which begins on Saturday.
