Polo: New captain promises exciting season
The newly-elected Captain of the Accra Polo Club, Kwakye Dopoah Dei, has entreated members of the club to keep their horses in shape and train harder to achieve more laurels this season.
In a speech delivered at the club’s well-attended pre-season party in Accra last Saturday, Mr Dei promised a hectic year which will see the hosting of more local and international tournaments to keep members more active.
Mr Dei, who is also the president of the Ghana Real Estate Developers Association (GREDA), was recently elected Captain for the third time in the history of the Accra Polo Club.
He announced that the 2013-2014 season would take off on Saturday, September 28 with the Trustees Cup, followed by the Vodafone-sponsored Nigeria Independence international friendly on October 12 and 13.
On November 2, the Captain’s Cup will take centre stage as a fitting prelude to another international friendly between Ghana and South Africa on Saturday, November 23.
The keenly-contested Accra Open Tournament, which is the flagship event of the season, is slated for December 10-14 to pave the way for a four-nation youth tournament involving Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa and the United States of America (USA).
He disclosed that Ghana would also host Ireland in Accra on February 8, 2014, to set the stage for the much-awaited Ghana Independence Cup in March next year.
