Powers kayos Sarbah - To record third successive K.O.

Ayittey Powers last Saturday recorded his third successive knock out in the year with a fourth round technical knockout (TKO) of Joe Sarbah in an anti-climax of an event that promises so much.
A non-title cruiserweight at the Kotobabi Wembley Sports Complex in Accra, Sarbah was full of bluster heading into the fight, vowing to retire Powers but he was desperately out of his depth requiring his corner to rescue him from a brutally efficient Powers who was cruising to victory.

Powers, whose record now stands at 21 wins, 24 losses and a draw, added the unimpressive Sarbah to his 2015 list of conquests, which includes Benin’s Anicet Amoussou and Kwesi Tutu.
The lanky Sarbah, who was led into the ring by an entourage of traditional musicians and dancers began the first round as the aggressor; showing good footwork and delivering combinations to the body of a sluggish Powers, who landed the occasional jab and hook.
However, Powers, the reigning West Africa light heavyweight champion, soon found his groove in the second round, scoring a knockdown after connecting with powerful left and right punch combination.

The knockdown was a jolt to Sarbah who tried to respond with a flurry of his own but was docked a point by Referee Roger Barnor after he delivered a punch to the base of his opponents skull.
By the third round, Powers was in total control picking and choosing the moments to connect with his peculiar single heavy punch style.
He even had the luxury of displaying the antics his nemesis Bukom Banku used to such devastating effect on him a year ago as he toyed with Sarbah who had no choice than to clinch leaving his cornermen visibly worried.

With both boxers perched on their corner stools before the start of the fourth round, Sarbah's trainer, displaying ignorance regarding the laws about how to end a fight, entered the ring waving his hands but he was ejected by Referee Barnor.
This led to a mix-up in Sarbah's corner, with the boxer eagerly wanting to return but his corner desperate to save him from further punishment.
Finally, the bout was halted after a water bottle was thrown into the ring from among the spectators.
Interestingly, Kumasi-based Sarbah, who suffered numerous heavy blows to his head during the bout got into a heated argument with his cornermen after Roger Barnor had ended the bout, under bizarre circumstances in the fourth round, stressing that he was not injured and fit enough to continue.

In other bouts, Sheriff Quaye defeated Emmanuel Quartey viaTKO in their lightweight contest, Sumaila Badu also scored a second round TKO over Atta Kofi in a bantamweight contest and Emmanuel Danso alias Kwahu Tyson was declared victor after a clash of heads halted his light heavyweight bout with Kwasi Tutu.
Former Commonwealth light-middleweight champion, Obodai Sai, recorded a unanimous super-middleweight victory over Emmanuel Donkor and hard-hitting Habib Ahmed forced David Okine to retire before round three of their super-middleweight bout.
