Prempeh College to get sports complex

Prempeh College in Kumasi has been nominated as one of the 10 Senior high schools (SHSs) to benefit from the government’s proposed sports complex to be constructed nationwide.

The sports facility, when completed, would serve as a resource centre to hunt for talents to be nurtured to become the nation’s future sports talents.

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mahama Ayariga, who toured the facility, together with the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Kojo Bonsu, to assess its readiness, told journalists that Prempeh College was chosen as a beneficiary for Ashanti Region because of its strategic location, land size and track record in sports.

The tour, according to the minister, was a follow-up to a similar exercise in the Brong Ahafo Region where Sunyani Senior High Technical School was selected.

He said the construction of the sports infrastructure would lead to the formation of academies where students selected from inter-school and college competitions would be camped and given the requisite training to contribute their quota national sports, development.

Mr Ayariga stressed the importance of the project to President Mahama and his government since it would create the opportunity for the youth to identify and develop their talents and also create jobs.

 The Headmaster of Prempeh College, Mr Emmanuel K. Yeboah, who was happy about the project, pledged the school’s assistance to ensure that the dream was realised.

Mr Yeboah said the sports complex would boost sporting activities at the Prempeh College and also serve as a sports hub for the numerous schools in the region.

The KMA Chief Executive, Mr Kojo Bonsu, on his part, gave the assurance that he would pay frequent visits to the site to monitor progress of work to ensure that the project got completed on time.
