Ruth Baffoe wins three medals in Yaounde

Ghana's female weightlifter, Ruth Baffoe, has won three bronze medals in the ongoing Africa Senior Weightlifting Championship in Yaounde, Cameroun.

Ruth won her first bronze medal with a lift of 53 kg, added the second with a snatch of 69 kg and followed it up with a clean jerk of 82 kg at the championship, which also serves as the African qualifier for the Rio Olympic Games.

The Ghanaian weightlifting hopeful was among a 10-member delegation, comprising seven weightlifting athletes and three officials who left the country last Friday for the competition which ends on May 14.

The participants were Christian Amoah, Forrester Osei, Prince Nyarko, Theophilus Tackie, Nii Dario Dodoo, David Akwei. 

An elated Ruth expressed delight at her achievement, saying that notwithstanding the inadequate preparations the team had prior to the championship, she had managed to win medals which she hoped would spur on her teammates.
