Seniors shock Silver

Ashanti regional hockey league leaders, Silver, were given the shock of their lives last Saturday  when  they were thrashed 4-1 by Seniors in their crunch match at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The results put  brakes on Silver  in their quest for the league trophy this year. Now tied with 16 points with Seniors, Silver need to play above themselves in their next games to be able to realise their ambition.

Ebenezer Darko, Roger Adwetaa, Felix Serbeh and Wallace Ababio scored for Seniors, while Adu Brobbey netted  the consolation goal for Silver.

Samuel Asare became the hero the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) hockey club  when he scored  a solidary goal against Unique to increase their points build up to 13.

The former champions (KNUST) appear to have rediscovered their form with scintillating display of amazing stick works  in recent times, winning all their last three matches  with the hope of leapfrogging the top teams.

Asare’s goal crowned an afternoon of excellent display of stamina and focus, as Coach Emmanuel Abban kept his chargers on their feet throughout the 70 minutes of play.

Perhaps Bibiani’s shock 1-0 win over Royals could pass them as the team of the week, having drawn just one game and lost all other matches since the league got underway.

The self-motivated side played above themselves and attacked relentlessly  until they scored to grab their first three points in many games.

They are now on four points, but still stuck at the bottom of the five-club league.
