Sports Ministry launches recreation and wellness drive in Ga-Mashie
The Ministry of Sports and Recreation will tomorrow, Monday, September 22, officially launch the National Recreation and Wellness Programme (NaRWP) at Mantse Agbonaa, Jamestown, under the theme: “Play More, Live Well – The Ga-Mashie Edition.”
The initiative, championed by the sector minister, Kofi Iddie Adams, in partnership with the Odododiodio Constituency and its Member of Parliament, Alfred Nii Kotey Ashie, is expected to bring together residents for a morning of fitness, wellness, and cultural activities starting at 6:00 a.m.
According to the Ministry, NaRWP is designed as a nationwide campaign to encourage active lifestyles, improve public health, and strengthen community bonds through structured programmes that combine recreation, wellness, rehabilitation, and school-based physical activity.
Activities lined up for the Ga-Mashie activation include mass aerobics sessions and free health screenings for participants. Attendees will also take part in indigenous games such as Oware, Ludu, Ampe, and Draft, alongside a “Tag of Peace” rope challenge.
The day will also feature community football and volleyball matches, with winners receiving trophies, prizes, and giveaways.
Organisers have extended an open invitation to schools, youth groups, fitness clubs, elderly associations, and healthcare volunteers to join what is expected to be a lively and inclusive event. Participants are encouraged to attend in sportswear and engage in the activities.
The Ministry says the Ga-Mashie edition is only the beginning of a larger nationwide rollout aimed at embedding wellness into everyday life across Ghana.
