The squad, which was unveiled last Friday at a press soiree to formally announce Vodafone Ghana as the sponsors of the peace-building event, is headlined by FIFA Ballon d'Or nominee Samuel Eto'o and multiple CAF African Footballer of the Year winners, including Jay Jay Okocha and Nwankwo Kanu.

The team will be captained by former Black Stars skipper, Stephen Appiah, and will also feature former European football superstars such as Manchester United legends Dwight Yorke and Louis Saha, ex-England internationals Sol Campbell, Emile Heskey and Jermain Defoe, and Dutch greats Patrick Kluivert, George Boateng, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Edgar Davids.

Other players on the list are ex-Black Stars players Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, Richard Kingson, Augustine Ahinful, Laryea Kingston, as well as Nigerian international Yakubu Aiyegbeni, and former Arsenal trio Emmanuel Eboue, Alexander Song and Emmanuel Adebayor.

The Marketing Director of Vodafone Ghana Limited, Agnes Emefa Essah, stated that her outfit shared in the passion that all Ghanaians had for football, hence the decision to support the event to use the "beautiful game" to safeguard peaceful conditions before and after the national elections on November 7.

The GFA President, Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi, in an address P ledged his outfit's support for the peace-building effort, noting how it would be impossible to organise sports programmes and also conduct business in a chaotic environment.

Election 2016 Peace Ambassador, Stephen Appiah, appealed to football fans to consider patronising the 2016 Vodafone Unity Match as their contribution towards promoting peace and unity before, during and after the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections on November 7.

The first encounter of the Vodafone Unity Match will see Appiah lead a team of former and current international football stars against Ghana Premier League giants Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Stadium, before squaring it off against the Black Stars in Accra three days later.
