Stars target semis in Brazil - Inkoom

Black Stars defender, Samuel Inkoom, says there is a deep sense of determination by his teammates to improve upon Ghana’s past World Cup performance with an obsession for a historic semi-final berth at this year’s tournament in Brazil.

At the last World Cup in South Africa, the Stars were just one penalty kick away from qualifying for the penultimate round but crashed out at the quarter-finals against Uruguay through after a shootout.

Four years later, Inkoom says Coach Kwasi Appiah’s charges are obsessed about going a step further in Brazil to maintain the team’s record of progressing at each tournament.

"We know we are not the best team at the tournament, but we are obsessed to go a step further than we did in South Africa.

We are realistic about our target, which means we are cautious in measuring our optimism and want to keep working harder every step of the way to achieve our desire in Brazil," Inkoom told fifa.com.

A right back who can also play on the left or in midfield, Inkoom featured prominently in Ghana’s impressive run in South Africa and again fancies his chances of playing for Ghana in Brazil, having experienced a career revival at Greek side, Platanias FC.

However, the challenge of facing European heavyweights, Germany and Portugal, and old foes, the United States in Group G is not lost on the 24-year-old.

"Our group is a very tough one, indeed. A look at the FIFA monthly ranking tells it all for Germany and Portugal, who are in the top three.

You cannot overlook the USA as well. They are all very good sides, we appreciate their quality and know it must take more than 100 per cent effort to get a result off each.”
