“Stay calm and focus” – Embassy assures Black Queens of full protection in UAE

Officials from Ghana’s diplomatic mission in the United Arab Emirates have paid a morale-boosting visit to the camp of the Black Queens, offering assurances of government support as the national women’s team competes in the Pink Ladies Cup.

The delegation, comprising Consular Officer Percy Okudzeto, Consul and Head of Chancery Abdul-Jalil Sigli Yakubu Abdulai and Head of Transport Anas Shaibu, met the players and technical team during a scheduled engagement aimed at reinforcing confidence and calm within the camp.

The visit comes amid concerns about unrest reported in parts of the UAE after the US and Israel attacked Iran and retaliatory missile launches from the latter on US bases in the region. This has prompted diplomatic authorities to intensify engagement with Ghanaian nationals in the country, including the national team contingent. While tournament activities continue as planned, the mission sought to reassure the squad that their welfare remains a priority.

Addressing the players, Consular Officer Percy Okudzeto emphasised that the government was closely following developments and had put measures in place to safeguard the team throughout their stay.

“We want the team to stay calm and focus on the competition. The government and the embassy are doing everything possible to ensure your safety and well-being,” he said in a publication on the GFA website.

Consul and Head of Chancery Abdul-Jalil Sigli Yakubu Abdulai also reiterated the mission’s readiness to provide any assistance required by the team during the tournament, signalling an open line of communication between the camp and the embassy.

The interaction provided an opportunity for the officials to assess conditions at the team’s base, while players and staff used the moment to share their experiences and preparations ahead of upcoming fixtures. The engagement was described by those present as cordial and reassuring.

Leadership of the team expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as timely and motivating. Team officials indicated that the presence of representatives from Ghana’s mission had boosted morale and reinforced the sense of national backing at a crucial stage of the competition.
