Taekwondo: Allotey thrills fans
Taekwondo prodigy, Ollswell Allotey of Royals Taekwondo Club stunned patrons of the sport when he emerged the overall winner of this year’s Norlympics Taekwondo Championship at the D.G. Hathiramani Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium.
Allotey displayed quickness, speed and the effective use of his legs to score points over his opponents throughout the two-day competition held to introduce the sport to the Ghanaian youth.
The diminutive 12-year-old beat competitors who were older and much bigger than him to clinch the mini- refrigerator and the trophy at stake.
Young Allotey, a pupil of Korle Gonno `4` JHS and trained by Joesph Ghartey would also be taken to South Korea for further training and grooming in the sport .
Meanwhile, the president of the Norlympics Taekwondo Association, Norbert Amefu, has appealed for sponsorship to enable the youngster to make it to South Korea.
In the female category, Anita Abbey of St. Barnabas School at Osu in Accra won the overall best competitor in category. She also received a trophy, a table-top fridge and a medal.
