Tennis duo give Ghana gold

Ghana yesterday won her first gold medal at the ongoing All Africa Games in the men's doubles tennis final after the duo, Na-Adjrago Wisdom and George Darko, defeated DR. Congo pair of Deni Indondo and Sarma Kulufa, by two straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

The match, which started on Wednesday evening, was postponed to yesterday after the DR Congo opponents complained of poor visibility on court.

The Black Racquets were then leading the first set 6-4 and came back to finish business in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Ghana's medal tally now stands at 17, eight of them bronze, eight silver and a gold, after Team Ghana won four more medals last Wednesday in the track and field and taekwondo.

In taekwondo, Daniella Pelham won bronze in the 53kg category after defeating her Ethiopian opponent, while David Koney Adjetey also took silver in the heavyweight category after losing out to a Tunisian opponent in the final in Talangi, Brazzaville.

Discuss also added to Ghana’s medals as Juliana Aguwuo won bronze at the Unity Stadium, while compatriot Patrick Yao Obeng scooped silver in the T-54 1500m before Jordan Yamoah took silver in the pole vault.

A disqualification of Nigeria and Namibia in the men's 4x100m final gave Ghana the bronze medal after they finished fifth in that event. Ghana's quartet of Emmanuel Dasor, Solomon Afful, Shepherd Agbeko and Daniel Gyasi ran the race.
