Togo crash out of World Cup qualifiers
Togo has crashed out of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers for Africa, after losing to Uganda in their two-leg encounter on Sunday.
Ugand’s Cranes dominated the Hawks at the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole, to record an emphatic 3-0 victory to advance 4-0 on aggregate having won the first leg 1-0 in Lome last Friday.
For Uganda, the victories were even more satisfying after recent painful defeats to Togo.
"This is a a sweet win because Togo beat us twice last year in the Afcon qualifiers," said Uganda captain, Geoffrey Massa after the game.
Zambia beat Sudan 2-0 in Ndola to progress 3-0 overall to join Gabon and Uganda as those who have so far cqualified to the next round of the qualifiers.
Last Saturday, Bundesliga star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the winning penalty as Gabon became the first team to reach the group phase of African 2018 World Cup qualifying.
Gabon beat Mozambique 4-3 on penalties following extra time in Libreville after Gabon won 1-0 to level the second-round tie at 1-1 on aggregate.
