Kudus’ nomination comes after his remarkable strike, where he collected the ball near the halfway line, showcased dazzling footwork to evade several defenders, and fired a powerful shot with his weaker foot, leaving the goalkeeper helpless. The goal has already earned him West Ham United’s Goal of the Season award.
The Puskas Award honours the most outstanding goal of the year, and Kudus faces stiff competition from an illustrious lineup of nominees, including Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho for his acrobatic overhead kick against Everton and Inter Milan’s Federico Dimarco for a thunderous strike against Frosinone.
Other African stars also in contention include Nigeria’s Paul Onuachu, Uganda’s Dennis Omedi, and Algeria’s Yassine Benzia, highlighting the continent’s rich footballing talent.
The FIFA Puskas Award winner will be crowned at the FIFA Awards ceremony in January 2025. For Kudus, this recognition marks another high point in a stellar career trajectory and underscores his growing influence on the global football stage.
