Ampem Darkoa coach: We are here to win and bring the trophy home

Head coach of Ampem Darkoa Ladies, Nana Joe Adarkwa is confident his side is better placed to lift the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League trophy after their heroic performance against Moroccan side AS FAR on Monday, November 6 at the Stade Laurent Pokou in San Pedro.

The Ghanaian team came from a goal down to win 2-1 against AS FAR in their Group B opener last Monday after Najat Badri’s 13th minute goal gave the defending champions, who came into the competition as clear favourites, a reassuring lead before half time.

From recess, Ampem Darkoa rallied and got the equaliser through a brilliant goal by Comfort Yeboah in the 57th minute before engineering another attack which resulted in an own goal few minutes later.

“First of all, we knew our game against AS FAR would be very difficult. So we were determined and prepared. Unfortunately, we conceded in the first half,” coach Adarkwa said in a post-match interview.

“We are here to win and bring the trophy home. We are on the right track. It was determination that made the difference. During the break, we had a serious talk with the players and they reacted well in the second half,” he added.

He praised the players for their efforts which led to the massive come back and the eventual triumph.

“The determination and the hard work of the girls was the reason we got the positive results,” he said.

16-year-old Comfort Yeboah won the Woman of the Match award for her heroic exploits. Ampem Darkoa Ladies will now face Malian side AS Mande in their second group game on Thursday, November 9, 2023.
