Black Queens and Nottingham Forest winger Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah says Ghana is well prepared for its Group D opener against Cape Verde in the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), scheduled for 5:00 p.m. today.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Boye-Hlorkah said although the previous WAFCON was a new experience for many members of the squad, the team has since grown together and heads into the tournament opener with confidence.
"Those girls were really excited. We've been waiting for it," she said. "We've prepared really well. We had a good time out here last year, so now we're prepared to come back and do our job."
"The last WAFCON was new for a lot of the girls, but we've gelled as a team and we'll be going into the Cape Verde game with confidence. We've come together, we've put the training sessions in and, as the coach said, together with the fitness coach, they've put us through our paces and we're ready to get going."
Boye-Hlorkah urged her teammates to trust the team's approach and focus on their own game rather than their opponents.
"We focus more on ourselves, and as long as we know that when we play the way we want to play, teams have to find a way to break us down," she said. "We go into the game with confidence, take each match as it comes and see what we can do."
Ghana has been drawn in Group D alongside Cape Verde, Cameroon and Mali.
