We’ll mobilise 3,000 to Brazil by sea — Boakye

The Ghana National Supporters Union (GHANSU) is seeking government assistance and participation in a drive to mobilise Ghanaian supporters to Brazil by sea to support the senior national team, the Black Stars, at the World Cup in June this year.

The union’s President, Abraham Boakye, said the government could save money if it opted for  the sea travel in the bid to sponsor Ghanaian soccer fans to Brazil to support the Black Stars.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Boakye, aka One Man Supporter, claimed that the move could facilitate the mobilisation of over 3,000 Ghanaian supporters who would also live in the ship during the tournament.

According to him, his union had concluded negotiations with a German cruise liner agency for a large holiday vessel which had a built-in hotel, night club, restraurant and other holiday facilities that could accommodate the large number of passengers on cruise.

“We are appealing to the government to assist the union to organise the trip to Brazil, as it will save the government a lot of money if it intends to take supporters to the World Cup.

“This option will enable the government to save money, as the supporters will not spend on hotel accomodation and food because we will take along cooks and food that will last the entire World Cup period,”  he stated..

He argued that since the first two matches for the Black Stars would be played at coastal venues, namely Natat and Fortaleza,  the sea option was convenient and cost-saving.
