Western Region hosts drowning prevention course
A drowning prevention course designed to equip the youth in the skills of rescue is underway at the Busua Beach Resort in Takoradi.

The course which is the first of its kind in the Western Region and started last Friday is being organised by the Ghana Lifesaving and Diving Association in conjunction with the Ghana Swimming Association,Voltic Ghana Limited and Free the Children, an NGO.
Casually identification, lifeguard communication, rescuin, drowning victims, how to use rescue equipment, as well as Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation(CPR) and first aid, are among the programmes the participants are going through.
According to the course instructor, Mr. Kwami Kpodoh, the participants would also undergo training on the role of the lifeguard, swimming in the wind, waves, rips currents, flags and patrolling.
In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Mr Kpodoh said the seminar which was in two parts; beach lifeguarding and aquatic survival programmes for the youth.
He noted that talents abounded in swimming in the region and therefore, called on the Sports Ministry to initiate a programme that would identify such talents and groom them for future sporting programmes .
