Winston Yeboah Danso: East Legon Football Academy founder becomes first Ghanaian to win Stevie Award
Founder of the East Legon Football Academy (ELFA), Winston Yeboah Danso, has made history by becoming the first Ghanaian to win a Stevie Award at the International Business Awards (IBAs).
Mr Yeboah Danso received the Bronze Stevie for Thought Leader of the Year – Government or Non-Profit at the 2025 edition of the awards, which attracted more than 3,800 nominations from organisations and individuals across 78 nations and territories. Winners were selected by the average scores of over 250 executives who judged entries between May and July.
“This award is not just for me, but for every young Ghanaian who dares to dream. I dedicate it to all who have supported and believed in my vision, my coaching staff, and the players of ELFA,” he said after receiving the honour.
A review of the Stevie Awards’ official records confirmed that no Ghanaian had previously won in any category, making Mr Yeboah Danso’s achievement a groundbreaking milestone.
Since establishing ELFA in 2019 with a mission to merge football development with social impact, he has guided the academy to three appearances at Denmark’s Dana Cup, where they have lifted two trophies. Beyond football, he has provided financial and personal support to players facing difficulties, ensuring that opportunities are not limited by background.
“Through football and business, I want to transform lives. When I see a talented young person struggling, I feel compelled to step in and make a difference,” he noted.
Mr Yeboah Danso, who is also a serial entrepreneur, said he is positioning ELFA as a hub for developing world-class football talent while driving youth empowerment in Ghana. He praised the Stevie Awards organisers for recognising his work and pledged to continue raising Ghana’s flag high on the global stage.
Winners of the 2025 International Business Awards will be celebrated at a gala banquet on Friday, 10 October, at the Corinthia Hotel in Lisbon, Portugal.
