Bitfiasi celebrates graduation of its first bitcoin for beginners cohort
Bitfiasi Initiative has marked a significant milestone with the graduation of its first cohort from the Bitcoin for Beginners programme, further cementing its mission to empower African women through education and innovation.
The graduation ceremony, held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the iSpace Foundation in East Legon, Accra, was a vibrant celebration of achievement and promise.

Themed A Bitcoin Celebration for Women, the event began with an engaging fireside chat led by the Executive Director of Bitfiasi, Gideon Kombian, and hosted by the Master of Ceremonies, Sika Ayiwa.
Kombian shared the inspiration behind Bitfiasi’s creation, its vision for the future, and the critical role women play in advancing Bitcoin adoption across the African continent.
“This programme is about breaking barriers and empowering women to harness Bitcoin as a tool for financial independence,” Kombian explained.
The event’s keynote address, delivered by Awura Abena Amponsah, centred on *Breaking Barriers: Women Shaping the Bitcoin Revolution. She highlighted the transformative potential of women in the Bitcoin space, stating, “Women have a unique ability to shape the future of finance, and their inclusion is essential for creating a more equitable financial ecosystem.”
Adding to the global perspective, Tali Lindberg, an advocate for money and Bitcoin literacy based in Louisville, Kentucky, USA, joined virtually. Her presentation provided actionable strategies for women to utilise Bitcoin effectively.
“This technology is more than an investment; it’s a pathway to financial independence for women everywhere,” Lindberg said.

The event celebrated 16 graduates who successfully completed the eight-week course. During the ceremony, graduates shared emotional testimonials about how the programme transformed their understanding of Bitcoin and equipped them with the confidence to begin their financial journeys.
One graduate remarked, “This programme has broadened my horizons. I now have the skills to explore Bitcoin opportunities confidently.”
The programme also featured a panel discussion with industry experts exploring the intersections of Bitcoin technology, education, and entrepreneurship. The panelists provided valuable perspectives on overcoming challenges in the Bitcoin space and leveraging its opportunities.
In her commencement address, Akosua Naana Lexis Agyeman encouraged graduates to adopt a growth mindset in her speech, Developing the Mindset of a Lifelong Learner. She emphasised the importance of curiosity and resilience in navigating an ever-evolving financial landscape.

A highlight of the event was an interactive workshop led by Edward Amewu, CTO of Bitnob Technologies. Participants received hands-on training on Bitcoin’s real-world applications, including saving strategies and practical tools.
The ceremony concluded with Lydia Sena Ami Kudowor, Programs Director, outlining Bitfiasi’s ambitious vision for the future. She highlighted upcoming initiatives aimed at equipping more women with the knowledge and tools necessary to thrive in a rapidly digitising economy.
“This event has opened my eyes to the endless possibilities Bitcoin offers,” one attendee noted. “It’s an empowering journey that I’m proud to be part of.”
