2016 Marketing Man of the Year wants economy digitised
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of telecommunication giant, MTN Ghana, Mr Ebenezer Twum Asante, has described digitisation of the economy as crucial to the fight against corruption.
He has, therefore, lauded efforts being made by the government and corporate Ghana to formalise the economy through digitisation.
Mr Asante made the comments during his acceptance speech after being crowned the marketing man of the year 2016 at the 28th annual Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG) National Marketing Performance Awards in Accra last Saturday.
“We cannot rest until Ghana attains a digital economy by tapping the efficiency of ICT and most importantly, the transparency that comes with automated and digital business so that as a country, we can also begin to fight corruption. This is because all corruption begins and ends with manual manipulation of systems and processes, not to talk about character,’’ he said.
Mr Asante’s comments come on the heels of the introduction of the paperless system at the country’s ports and the Ghana Card (the national identification programme) by the government.
Other winners
The ceremony held on the theme: “Cause Related Marketing: A Panacea for National Behavioural Change”, also saw the CEO of United Bank for Africa Ghana, Mrs Abiola Bawuah, being named as the marketing woman for the year 2016.
Mrs Bawuah dedicated her award to all women who had contributed in many diverse ways to the socio-economic development of the country.
She advised women and any individuals striving to make an impact on society not to give up, but to be self-motivated, adding “the sky is just the beginning.’’
Thirty-eight companies and individuals also received awards for distinguishing themselves in their endeavours and promoting their field of expertise.
Advocacy
The President of the CIMG, Mr Kojo Mattah, said CIMG over the years had become an advocate for change in corporate Ghana and the political life of Ghana.
“We go beyond the professional achievement and welfare needs of our members to pursue vigorous advocacy either by ourselves or in partnership with other organisations,’’ he said.
