Accra hosts Fourth Annual American Chambers of Commerce in Africa Summit

The fourth American Chambers of Commerce (AmCham) annual summit of member countries in Africa will be held from 11th to 12th February 2014, at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Accra.

The conference on the theme “Building the American Brand in Africa”, is hosted by the Africa Bureau of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and will be attended by AmCham members from sub-Sahara Africa, U.S. government officials, Government of Ghana dignitaries and U.S. Chamber of Commerce executives.

Conference participants will discuss various strategies designed to drive the growth of U.S. private sector investment and bi-lateral trade with Africa.  Participants will also discuss U.S. government policies and initiatives aimed at accelerating the development of African economies.

A statement issued by the US Embassy in Accra said Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur will be special guest of honour at the opening ceremony on 11th November.

The Minister for Trade & Industry, the Hon. Haruna Iddrisu will address a business lunch session. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, the Hon. Hannah Tetteh, will also address delegates on the key aspects of regional integration in Africa.  Mr. Kwame Pianim, renowned Ghanaian economist and businessman, will additionally share his experiences on business and suggestions for increasing U.S. investment and trade in Africa.

Various U.S. government officials, including the U.S. Ambassador to Ghana, Gene Cretz, will discuss their government’s role in providing financing and mitigating risk as well as how to leverage U.S. government agencies to advance trade, investment and development. 

Representatives of the African Development Bank will present their ground breaking research on the growth potential of African economies and the bank’s private sector financing programs for infrastructure development, manufacturing and agri-business.

Participating members of AmCham will share their experiences and success stories on engagement and doing business on the African continent.
