EDC donates GH¢100K to COVID-19 Trust Fund

The contractor of the University of Ghana Hospital project, EDC Engineering and Construction Limited based in Israel, has donated an amount of GH¢100,000 to the COVID-19 Trust Fund.

This was in response to the clarion call made by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo after he established the COVID-19 Trust Fund with the view to soliciting support from Ghanaians and corporate bodies in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Ms Elizabeth Ayim, who made the presentation on behalf of the company, said the donation was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.

According to her, as a company that had a specialty in the construction of health facilities and had executed a number of projects in the country, the company saw Ghana as one of its major clients, hence the need to support the nation’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

She added that the pandemic had crippled almost every economic activity in the world and that raised a very serious concern, hence the company deemed it extremely necessary to support the government of Ghana in its fight against this global pandemic.

Ms Ayim also expressed the belief that the support would go a very long way to reinforce the message that the Health Ministry and the Ghana Health Service have been stressing; the importance of washing hands under running water, as well as the use of hand sanitisers among other precautionary measures.

The Chairperson of the COVID-19 Trust Fund, Justice Sophia Akuffo, who received the cheque on behalf of the trust fund, was thankful to the company for the kind gesture.

She further expressed her appreciation on behalf of the government and called on other multinational construction firms to emulate the EDC’s example, particularly in this abnormal time of COVID-19.
