Ghana must chart own economic path beyond IMF — Graphic MD

The Managing Director of Graphic Communications Group Ltd has challenged Ghanaians to define a home-grown economic vision that transcends political cycles and external prescriptions as the country prepares to exit its 17th IMF programme by the end of 2026.

At the Graphic Business-Stanbic Bank Breakfast Meeting held at the Labadi Beach Hotel on Tuesday, the MD drew parallels between nation-building and brand-building, insisting that lasting trust is earned only through consistent delivery on promises.

He told the audience of policymakers, economists, business leaders and viewers on digital platforms, that “When we promise and deliver consistently in good faith, we build trust. That is how strong brands are built — and that is how ‘Brand Ghana’ must be built.”

With the 2026 Budget already presented and macroeconomic indicators showing improvement — notably lower inflation and a stabilising cedi — the Graphic MD posed a pointed question: “What next?”

Reliance

He warned against perpetual reliance on what he described as “new imperial structures and neoliberal constructs” to dictate Ghana’s destiny, nearly 70 years after independence.

“For almost seven decades, we have proven we are capable of defining our own affairs,” he declared. “Must we still be talking about people who were here 70 years ago and left? Or should we finally be talking about ourselves and how we choose to do things?”

Urging the distinguished panel and audience to engage dispassionately, he called for a national agenda that outlives election cycles and political administrations.

“We must advise our political actors, the political elite, economists and all who manage our economic structures to rethink how we move forward from here,” he said. “Only then can we establish an agenda that truly takes us into 2026, 2027 and beyond — an agenda that is authentically Ghanaian.”

Appreciation

The Graphic MD delivered his remarks on behalf of the organising team and thanked lead partner Stanbic Bank and host venue Labadi Beach Hotel for making the high-level dialogue possible.

The breakfast meeting, a flagship platform for economic discourse, continues to provide critical space for stakeholders to shape Ghana’s post-IMF economic future.
