6 Schools reach Graphic Business TBSC Semis
Six schools have qualified for the semi-finals of this year's Graphic Business Tertiary Business Sense Challenge Version 7.0.
They will compete for the three places in the final in three separate contests tomorrow.
The six are the University of Ghana (UG), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), SD Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDDBIDS), University of Education, Winneba (UEW), University of Cape Coast (UCC) and Valley View University (VVU).
The complete list of semi-finalists was obtained yesterday after the University of Ghana outfought Koforidua Technical University (KTU) 48-41 to qualify, while SDDBIDS triumphed over the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) 34-32, with KNUST beating West End University College 68-27 to progress to the semi-finals.
Semi-finals pairings
On Thursday, UCC will meet KNUST in the first semi-final contest before UEW takes on VVU in the second semi-final contest of the day.
The last semi-final contest will see the University of Ghana clash with SDDBIDS.
Aim
Designed as a bridge between academic theory and the business world, the TBSC continues to offer tertiary students across Ghana a transformative platform to showcase their business acumen and sharpen their critical thinking.
Expanded format
Quizmaster, Alhassan Trawule, has told the Daily Graphic that the competition was getting keener already, and fans must prepare for an interesting outcome.
He revealed that in a break from previous formats, the competition would now include more comprehensive presentations judged by a panel, not just the quizmaster.
“We are introducing a lot more of the case studies where schools will be required to apply a lot of principles; they will make presentations for a panel to be able to judge them,” he said.
The competition will also include training sessions in computer literacy and mentorship days featuring seasoned professionals, aimed at equipping participants with both soft and technical skills.
“We have set aside about two days where we have computer training or literacy skills for all participants from the schools.
“Aside from that, we also have a day where there will be a mentorship and coaching session,” Mr Trawule added.
New hopefuls
The quizmaster also paid homage to the University of Cape Coast, which remains the most successful school in the history of the competition, having won it twice in 2019 and 2021.
He expressed excitement about other top contenders such as the University for Development Studies, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University of Education, Winneba, and University of Ghana, gearing up to match or surpass that feat this year.
Participants, sponsors
With over 26 schools participating and several new entrants joining the fray for the first time, anticipation is building.
“This year will be quite exciting, we will see how it goes this year,” Mr Trawule said.
The competition is being sponsored by the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG), MTN, PWC, GLICO Life, Peeva Beverages, Papaye, GCB Bank and Compu Ghana.
