Graphic Business/Stanbic Breakfast Meeting: Experts to discuss pre-2022 budget tomorrow
Experts in tax law, economists, financial consultants and academics will converge tomorrow on Accra for the last quarterly edition of the Graphic Business/Stanbic Bank Breakfast meeting.
At a time when the pandemic has created a lot of challenges for the economy, the breakfast meeting will seek to help shape the direction of the 2022 budget by suggesting solutions to guide the crafting and implementation of government policies.
Who are the speakers
Due to the nature of the event, the event organiser has assembled some of the country’s best brains when it comes to issues of the economy and tax related matters.
They include, the Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Mr Charles Adu Boahen, who is expected to deliver the keynote address at the meeting.
It will also feature speakers such as a Senior Lecturer at the School of Law, University of Ghana (UG), Dr Abdallah Ali-Nakyea; Financial Consultant and Senior Lecturer of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Dr Randolph Nsor-Ambala, and Senior Lecturer at the Department of Economics at the UG, Dr Priscilla Twumasi Baffour.
Participants are expected to be engaged on insightful topics such as “The new thinking around revenue mobilisation through digitalisation”, to be delivered by Dr Ali-Nakyea; “Effective national fiscal policy management and benefits to the private sector”, to be presented by Dr Nsor-Ambala; while the topic “Creative economic planning in the private sector”, will be delivered by Dr Baffour.
It will be the fourth and final in the series of the thought leadership engagements initiated by the Graphic Business, the country’s leading business and financial newspaper and the Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited, a premier lender, to collate ideas on critical national issues.
The meeting will be held at the plush Labadi Beach Hotel at 7.00 a.m and will be streamed live on the social media networks of the Daily Graphic, Stanbic Bank Ghana as well as broadcast live on JOY FM and JOY News.
Structured platform
Speaking to the Daily Graphic ahead of the meeting in Accra at the weekend, the Director of Sales and Marketing at the Graphic Communications Group Limited, Mr Franklin Sowa, observed that the organisers of the meeting sought to create a structured platform for stakeholders to propose solutions that could benefit industries, businesses and improve national development in the 2022 budget.
He said the breakfast meeting would feature selected topics that will bring efficiency in the government’s fiscal policies for the 2022 financial year.
“Participants have been strategically drawn from the public sector, private sector and academia to discuss topics that will impact positively on industries, businesses and ensure social good.
We also want to use this opportunity to see how improved digitalisation could help scale up the government’s revenue mobilisation agenda,” he said.
He said the breakfast meeting was, therefore, expected to give policy makers and experts the opportunity to make suggestions in the 2022 budget.
Mr Sowa said the Graphic Business had always been the agenda- setting business newspaper, covering stories from various sectors including insurance, economy, SMEs, agriculture, banking, maritime among others.
He said the newspaper had, over the years, informed policy makers, academia and businesses with top-notch business information.
For his part, the Assistant Editor of the Graphic Business, Mr Charles Benoni Okine, said participants and for that matter the general should expect nothing but the best as usual.
“We at Graphic Business always assemble the best brains to speak on specialised areas to help shape national discourse and we trust that the calibre of personalities put together will do justice as usual.
At this time, we need a wide range of solutions proposed to the government to help us all recover from the negative impact of COVID-19 on our economy and we know our distinguished panelist will not disappoint”.
The context
The breakfast meeting, which is an initiative of the GCGL and the bank, is a series of dialogues that feature selected topics and is aimed at influencing government policies in favour of businesses.
It often brings together players in the private sector, policy makers and people from the government to deliberate on issues affecting businesses and the country in general.
Tomorrow’s meeting will draw the curtains in the series for the year in review.
