Ghana Post GPS searches hit 7.5 million

The Managing Director of the Ghana Post Company Limited, Mr James Kwofie says over 7.5 million people have used the Ghana Post GPS address system to search for locations in the country since its launch on October 18, 2017.

He said close to one million people have downloaded the app with over 5,000 properties tagged with the digital addressing system.

Mr Kwofie, who was interacting with media practitioners in Accra Thursday afternoon at the company’s head office, said over a million digital addresses have so far been generated.

The media interaction was to enable management of the company share successes they have chalked as well as highlight some challenges they face in their operations and solicit media support for their work.

Mr Kwofie said the Ghana Post GPS is gradually receiving acceptance by many people in the country, adding that the company will continue to create awareness about the service and also encourage its usage.

He said over 10,000 items have been delivered using the digital address, noting that the digital address makes it easier for the company to deliver items to people at their homes.

Mr Kwofie said to further encourage people to have their digital addresses, the company has developed an offline application for download capable of generating the digital address offload.

Successes
Touching on some recent major achievements of the company, Mr Kwofie said for the first time since 2012, the company has been able to grow its revenue by 25 per cent which it intends to double in the next four years.

He said as part of strategies to improve its operations, the company has procured 22 new vehicles to ensure efficiency and also embark on additional new routes.

He noted that the company has also taken full control of its operations which hitherto was in the hands of third parties, stressing that the company remains the leader in the cross-border postal services in the country.

Schools
Mr Kwofie said as part of measures to provide effective and efficient postal services in Senior High Schools (SHSs) across the country, Ghana Post intends to tag all SHS buildings with digital addresses.

This, he said, will make it easier for the company to directly deliver items to students whilst in school, noting that the exercise will cover all schools under the Ghana Education Service (GES).

He said government also intends to harmonize street naming exercises with the digital addressing system.

Ghana Post Company is mandated to undertake services such as the provision of courier services, operate non-banking financial services, undertake agency services on behalf of government and corporate bodies, as well as provide money remittance services through money or postal orders.
