GTP champions sustainability through pad project

TexStyles Ghana Ltd (TSG), popularly known as GTP, Ghana’s leading textile manufacturing company, has partnered with Landfills 2 Landmarks Foundation, Grace Presbyterian Church in the Akropong District and Amor Europe to launch a project to address menstrual health challenges and promote environmental sustainability.

The project, dubbed “Pure Pad Pilot”, introduces reusable sanitary pads made from 100 per cent cotton fabric sourced from TSG’s post-production off-cuts, to support girls in deprived communities. 

This initiative aims at empowering young girls, tackling period poverty while reduce textile waste. 

A release issued by the company said that through the pilot project, 2,500 young girls in deprived communities will receive the reusable pads, 50 local micro-enterprises like church groups, women’s cooperatives and other community organisations would be trained to manufacture the pads, and 40 tonnes of textile offcuts will be diverted from landfills. 

“This is more than just a product; this is a statement that women deserve dignity and the planet deserves care,” he said. 

It said the launch event brought together all the partners and stakeholders, including the Special Aide and Advisor to President John Dramani Mahama and Board Chair of Landfills 2 Landmarks, Joyce Bawah Mogtari; the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Akuapim North Constituency, Samuel Awuku; the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pure Amore Pads, UK, Jane Savage; CEO of Sait Recycling, Jonathan Sait, among others. 

Representing TSG,  the Marketing Manager of the GTP brand, Reuben Sam, highlighted how the initiative aligns perfectly with the brand’s purpose.

“Everything we do is driven by one goal: to give women the confidence to take life on. This initiative will help keep the girl child in school, giving them the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills to pursue their dreams. 

Providing the cotton fabrics for the production of this reusable sanitary pad is our way of offering freedom, dignity and confidence to all the beneficiaries,” he said.

The release said that with the launch of Pure Pad, TSG once again demonstrates its commitment to corporate social responsibility and environmental sustainability.
