Labour Minister praises Nutrifoods Ghana for safety record and 24 Hour operations

The Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr Abdul Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, has commended Nutrifoods Ghana Limited for its strong commitment to workplace safety, quality manufacturing and job creation during a working visit to the company’s facilities in Tema.

The visit, undertaken on December 18, 2025, formed part of the government’s engagement with private sector players to assess labour practices, occupational safety standards and contributions to employment creation.

Nutrifoods Ghana Limited, a joint venture between Olam and Sanyo, operates in Ghana’s fast moving consumer goods sector and produces household brands including Tasty Tom, NutriSnax, Royal King Cracker and Perk. The company has operated in Ghana for nearly 15 years, developing brands locally to meet the needs of Ghanaian consumers.

During a tour of the company’s manufacturing facility in the Tema Industrial Area, the Minister observed operations at the plant which produces Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix and is recognised as the largest tomato based processing and canning facility in West Africa.

Dr Pelpuo commended the company’s strong focus on consumer and worker safety, noting its record of more than 14 years without any lost time due to accidents. He also praised Nutrifoods for operating a 24 hour shift system in line with the government’s 24 hour economy policy and for its contribution to economic growth.

Addressing the media after the tour, the Minister said he was impressed by the quality of products manufactured locally and the company’s emphasis on Ghanaian ownership of its brands.

“I am impressed that the company is well established here and the products are made here by Ghanaians,” he said.

Dr Pelpuo said interactions with both management and staff pointed to a positive labour relations environment.

“My interactions with management and staff were encouraging and I observed a healthy labour relations climate with compliance across occupational safety and health standards as well as labour laws,” he said, adding that the government regarded the private sector as a key partner in addressing unemployment and was committed to supporting the development of a robust private sector.

The Managing Director and Business Head of Nutrifoods Ghana Limited, Mr Jay Anjaria, said the company currently employed nearly 2,000 people and continued to invest in building local intellectual and technical capacity in line with international manufacturing standards.

He said Nutrifoods Ghana had been recognised as a Top Employer in Ghana and Africa for five consecutive years by the Top Employers Institute, a recognition he attributed to the company’s people focused policies, employee development programmes and inclusive work culture.

The Minister was accompanied by directors and staff of the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment during the visit.
