Melcom Group appreciates senior citizens

The Melcom Group of companies has organised a reception for some senior citizens in Accra.

The event was to create a platform for the senior citizens to socialise and enable the company to recognise their contributions to national development.

Purpose

The Chairman of the Melcom Group, Mr Bhagwan Khubchandani, said the gesture was to put  smile on the faces of the senior citizens whose contribution to nation-building had been substantial.

He said if Ghana did not honour its senior citizens, it would be difficult for the country to have a call for future heroes.

Mr Khubchandani said his company was exploring the possibility of providing fast counters at all Melcom shops for senior citizens to provide them an opportunity to shop without any difficulty.

The event was attended by the Chief of Agomeda and former Minister of State, Nene Nagai Kasa (known privately as Mr Mike Gizo); the President of the Ghana Pensioners Association, Mr Edward Ameyibor, and the President of GBC Former Staff Association, Mr David Anaglatey.

Recognition

Messrs Anaglatey and Ameyibor thanked the Melcom Group for the gesture and appealed to state institutions to customise their services for senior citizens in the country.

He said if that was done, the senior citizens would feel recognised for their contributions to nation building.

Some of the senior citizens appealed to the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to provide them with identification (ID) cards to seek free health care in accredited health institutions across the country.

Commendation

The Director of Communications of the Melcom Group, Mr Godwin Avenorgbo, commended Mr Khubchandani for recognising the contributions of senior citizens to the nation and honouring them accordingly.

He also thanked him for charging his management to improve shopping areas to make them the most convenient places to do business.
