Mortein supports Ghana’s malaria elimination drive on World Malaria Day
In commemoration of World Malaria Day 2025, Mortein, a leading mosquito spray brand from Reckitt Ghana, has intensified its commitment to combating malaria in Ghana through a series of initiatives aimed at raising awareness, promoting preventive solutions, and strengthening strategic partnerships.
The Ghana Demographic and Health Survey (2022) reported a significant decline in malaria prevalence, with national rates dropping from 14.1% in 2019 to 8.6% in 2022. The Greater Accra Region maintained the lowest prevalence at 2.0%, while the Oti Region recorded the highest at 15.0%.
Despite this progress, malaria remains a major public health challenge across Ghana. Recognising the urgency of the situation, Mortein continues to provide effective solutions and support to help protect Ghanaian families from the threat of malaria.
As part of its nationwide efforts to combat the disease, Mortein collaborated with the National Malaria Elimination Programme under the Ghana Health Service and other key stakeholders to commemorate World Malaria Day in Accra. In addition, Mortein engaged the Jamestown community through public clean-up exercises and educational outreach initiatives. These activities were designed to reinforce the message that effective malaria prevention begins at the household level and thrives through strong public-private partnerships.
Mortein is specially formulated to kill 100% of mosquitoes and other flying insects such as flies, spiders, and cockroaches. The product is ideal for both homes and workplaces, and is available in lemon and odourless variants, while delivering powerful protection against mosquitoes.
Henry Nii Ankrah, Business Development Manager for Reckitt Ghana and CIV, the manufacturers of Mortein, stated, “At Reckitt, our priority is the health and safety of families. Malaria remains one of the most preventable yet deadly diseases in Ghana, and we believe that education, accessibility to the product, and consistent protection are key to ending it. Our Mortein insecticide is formulated to offer quick, effective protection against malaria, and we remain committed to supporting national efforts through community engagement and strong partnerships.”
World Malaria Day, observed annually on April 25, is a global event that recognises the collective effort to control and eliminate malaria worldwide.
