MTN Supports 27 SMEs in Ashanti Region

MTN Foundation has launched a five-year support programme for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Greater Accra, Takoradi and Kumasi.

The initiative is to grow these small businesses to the level where they could expand and create job opportunities for others.

At the launch of the initiative, the Economic Empowerment Advisor of MTN Foundation, Cynthia Mills, said a targeted 140 persons were expected to benefit from the fund.

She said the call for entries had been advertised for interested businesses to apply to access the initial capital from the GH¢1.3 million the foundation has voted for the programme. Ms Mills said successful applicants would stand the chance to access between GH¢5,000 to GH¢10,000.00 grant from the foundation for their projects.

Beneficiaries in the Ashanti Region, 27 businesses who were successful with their applications, were presented with their cheques at a ceremony at the MTN Regional Office at Nhyiaeso in Kumasi. 

Categories such as Youth led, Women Led and Differently Abled persons were given funds to expand their businesses.  

She cautioned the beneficiaries to keep an eye on their funds and invest them in their businesses for greater outcomes.

Two beneficiaries, Juliana Amoako, a mushroom farmer and Philip K. Mensah, a Kente weaver at Agona said aside from the financial support, they also received training in management to help them to grow their businesses. 

They said they were also taught how to use simple marketing tools on their phones to maximise their operations as well as keep simple accounting records. They commended MTN for choosing to invest in people including the physically challenged, women and the youth.
