He said setting up a business was not all about making huge returns but, more importantly, building a win-win symbiotic relationship with clients.

The Asantehene gave the charge in a speech read on his behalf by the Offinsomanhene, Nana Wiafe Akenten III, at the inauguration of the Adum branch of the Golden Pride Savings & Loans Limited in Kumasi last Tuesday.

He noted that currently the confidence of a lot of people in non-bank financial companies had waned and urged Golden Pride to be distinct and win back the confidence of Asanteman and society as a whole.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu urged residents of Kumasi to patronise the services of Golden Pride, adding: "Asanteman has done the necessary background checks on the company."

Support for local businesses
The General Manager of Golden Pride, Mr Johnson Asiedu Assimah, said one of the aims of the company was to empower local businesses to be financially independent.

He said tailor-made products had been designed to meet specific needs of the people.

The general manager said statistics from the Registrar-General’s Department indicated that 92 per cent of registered companies in the country were micro, small and medium enterprises, adding that SMEs contribution to socio-economic development could, therefore, not be overemphasised.

Board Chairman
The Board Chairman of the company, Mr Prince William Ankrah, said the institution was established in 2013 with investment from members of the Ghana Mine Workers Union (GMWU), at a time when the mining industry faced a downturn.

He thanked the Asantehene, who recommended the entrepreneurial venture to members in order to safeguard their future.

The Kumasi branch is the eighth after the Tema, Accra, Tamale, Koforidua, Takoradi, Obuasi and Sunyani outlets, as well as two sub-offices at Nungua and Weija in Accra.
