The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry has inaugurated a 26-member National E-Commerce Steering Committee to drive Ghana’s digital trade agenda and strengthen the country’s participation in the global digital economy.

The Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Sampson Ahi, who performed the inauguration on behalf of the Sector Minister, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, described the initiative as “a significant milestone in Ghana’s digital transformation journey.”

He explained that the Committee would serve as the principal inter-ministerial platform to provide leadership, coordination, and strategic advice, while also advocating for policies that align the nation’s e-commerce agenda with broader development goals and international standards.

“No single entity can accomplish this mission alone. Success will depend on breaking down silos and building bridges. Our greatest strength will lie not in individual expertise, but in collective action,” Mr Ahi stressed. He added that e-commerce had the potential to transform lives, particularly by opening up global markets for rural artisans, but noted that challenges such as digital payment security, cross-border trade facilitation and last-mile delivery needed urgent attention.

Chief Director of the Ministry, Noah Tumfo, who chairs the new Committee, assured stakeholders that the group would work with dedication to ensure Ghana did not miss out on the opportunities of the digital economy. He emphasised the importance of collaboration and effective coordination to build a resilient and competitive ecosystem for online trade.
