Semenyo, Kudus, Partey set for big-money payday

As the Black Stars prepare to conclude their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign, Ghanaian stars Antoine Semenyo, Mohammed Kudus and Thomas Partey are making waves in the English Premier League.

Despite facing scrutiny for perceived lacklustre performances and commitment in previous national team outings, these three footballers have been making headlines in England, with media speculation rife over potential big-money moves.

The trio will regroup in Ghana on Sunday to prepare for two crucial matches against Angola on November 15 and Niger on November 18. Their recent success on the English stage has not gone unnoticed, and Ghanaian fans hope they’ll bring that same brilliance to the Black Stars in the upcoming fixtures.

Bournemouth forward Semenyo has seen his stock skyrocket thanks to a sensational start to the 2024/25 season.

The 24-year-old made headlines last weekend with a stunning performance in Bournemouth’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City, a win that ended the reigning champions’ 32-match unbeaten streak.

His powerful and precise playstyle has made him a target for Liverpool, who are reportedly eyeing him as a potential replacement for the iconic Mohamed Salah.

Salah’s future at Liverpool is uncertain, with his contract expiring at the end of this season. The Egyptian forward’s possible departure has Liverpool seeking a successor, and Semenyo’s explosive form has placed him squarely on their radar.

With four goals and an assist in just 10 league appearances, Semenyo is showing he can thrive in the Premier League.

Since joining Bournemouth in January 2023 from Bristol City for a £10.5 million fee, Semenyo has been on an upward trajectory. His quick adaptation to Premier League football, along with his 13 goals across 58 matches for the Cherries, has cemented his reputation.

Despite signing a five-year extension in July this year, Bournemouth are reportedly planning yet another contract offer to ward off interest from Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, underscoring how highly the club values him.

Kudus on Arsenal’s radar

While Semenyo is drawing attention down south, West Ham United’s Kudus is turning heads in London. The 24-year-old attacking midfielder joined West Ham this season and has quickly showcased his exceptional skillset, contributing to a string of promising performances.

His dribbling finesse, speed and vision have made him one of West Ham’s standout players, prompting Arsenal to consider a bid.

Reports suggest that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta sees Kudus as a long-term replacement for Leandro Trossard, who may soon leave for the Saudi Pro League.

Arsenal are reportedly willing to pay £90 million to secure Kudus, a clear indication of their admiration for the Ghanaian playmaker. Kudus has impressed since arriving in England, with 16 goals and seven assists in 55 appearances across all competitions, highlighting his consistent contributions.

Kudus, however, has not been without controversy. He is currently facing a three-match ban following a heated incident during West Ham’s 4-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur.

Kudus was shown a red card after a late-game confrontation with multiple Spurs players, and the FA has charged him with violent conduct. Despite the setback, Kudus’ influence at West Ham remains strong, and the looming prospect of an Arsenal move has added intrigue to his situation.

Partey’s resurgence

Veteran midfielder Partey, who has faced criticism from some Ghanaian fans for missing the Black Stars’ previous AFCON qualifiers, is now thriving at Arsenal.

The 31-year-old has seen his role shift under manager Mikel Arteta, with Partey excelling in a hybrid role that occasionally deploys him as a right-back.

His recent performances have helped Arsenal maintain momentum, and his versatility has rekindled the club’s interest in extending his contract.

Partey joined Arsenal in 2020 from Atletico Madrid for €50 million, with expectations that he would anchor the Gunners’ midfield.

However, injuries have hampered his progress, casting doubt on his future. But his recent form has reminded fans and management alike of his importance.

Against Liverpool, Partey’s stellar performance saw him win the most duels and tackles on the pitch, and he led the team in touches, showcasing his control and influence.

With his contract set to expire in June 2025, Arsenal are reportedly considering a short-term extension similar to the one offered to Jorginho, which would provide a one-year deal with an additional year option.

This would allow Arsenal to retain Partey’s experience while balancing their squad’s long-term depth. Rumours of a possible return to Spain have surfaced, but Arsenal’s interest in keeping Partey underscores his value at the Emirates.

With Ghana set to face Angola and Niger, expectations are high for Semenyo, Kudus and Partey to replicate their club success on the international stage.

Ghanaian fans are eager to see their brightest stars shine in these crucial matches, especially given the country’s passionate football following and the historic importance of the AFCON.

For the trio, these matches serve as a platform to silence critics and reaffirm their commitment to the Black Stars. While they may be under pressure, their recent club form suggests that they are more than capable of leading the national team to victory.

Success in these qualifiers could cement their status as national icons and bolster their standing in the English Premier League.
