SYNLAB Ghana opens new head office

SYNLAB Ghana, a leading provider of laboratory diagnostic services, has opened its new ultra-modern head office situated at Shiashie in Accra.

The move forms part of its commitment to expand its reach and position itself better to serve the citizenry and support other healthcare delivery providers to accurately diagnose and provide comprehensive medical services.

Speaking at the opening ceremony in Accra, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SYNLAB Ghana, Patrick Asiamah, said the relocation of the head office became necessary as the company began to expand, requiring a more spacious facility for operations to better serve its valued customers.

“Starting from the acquisition of Medlab to now, we have invested about 30 million Euros in Ghana, including the acquisition, equipment upgrade, expansion in infrastructure and establishment of new laboratories and staff recruitment among others,” he said.

He said with the aim to continuously deliver top-quality services with state-of-the-art medical diagnostics and be the partner of choice for health professionals, a bigger and more convenient space was needed for the delivery of world-class medical laboratory services, hence the decision to invest heavily in such a facility.

“As we expand, we make a pledge not to lose sight of our core values of accountability, passion and customer centricity and promise to continually deliver peace of mind regarding the quality and accuracy of your test results,” Mr Asiamah added.

Innovative diagnostic tests

The CEO of SYNLAB Emerging Market, Thomas Degott, indicated that his outfit in 2015, acquired a majority share of Medlab, and by 2020 completed the takeover.

He added that with about 5,000 tests on offer, SYNLAB had the largest and most comprehensive laboratory test offering in Africa.

He said through the power of synergy, SYNLAB Ghana could offer over 5,000 tests both locally and through its partner labs in Germany, Spain, Belgium, Turkey and Italy.

He said “we offer an extensive range of reliable and innovative diagnostic tests and access to our radiology operations locally”.

“SYNLAB combines the benefits of a European-wide network, operating in more than 40 countries with the advantages of local diagnostic services providers.

“We pride ourselves in our specialised genetic tests. Some of these are Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT), BRCA-Plus, myPGx (a pharmacogenetic test), myBiome (which analyses microorganisms in your guts), Paternal DNA testing, and karyotyping among others,” he said.

Improving service delivery

The Director of External Health Cooperation at the Ministry of Health, Dr Hafez Adam, stressed on the essence of accurate, comprehensive and reliable laboratory results in healthcare delivery.

He said there were some sub-standard laboratories across the country, especially in remote areas.

However, his outfit was working to sanitise the system and ensure all labs met the right standard to provide quality health care in the country.
