Terkper leads delegation to IMF/World Bank annual meetings

The Minister of Finance, Mr Seth Terpker, is leading a government delegation to the International Monetary Fund (IMF)/World Bank annual meetings in Washington DC, USA, from October 4-14, 2016.

The delegation is made up of officials from the Bank of Ghana including the Governor, Dr Abdul-Nashiru Issahaku, the Chairman of the Finance Committee in Parliament, Mr James Avedzi and other officials from the Finance Ministry.

Events 

A statement from the Finance Ministry announcing the trip said the delegation would participate in the African Caucus Meeting with the World Bank President, Mr Jim Yong Kim, and the Managing Director of the IMF, Ms Christine Largarde.

The delegation, the statement added, would also hold a side meeting with the IMF Deputy Managing Director, Tao Zhang.

It said the delegation was also scheduled to meet with the Commonwealth Secretary General, Madam Patricia Scotland and attend the Commonwealth Finance Ministers Meeting to be held on the sidelines of the annual meetings.

According to the statement, other meetings the delegation would attend include the G24 Deputies Meetings and a closed door meeting of Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors sub-Saharan African countries with Mr David Owen, the acting Director for Africa Department on the Regional Economic Developments.

“Aside the obligatory meetings with the IMF and the World Bank, the delegation will hold bilateral discussions with other partner countries, financial institutions and private sector investors and in addition sign a loan agreement for the Expansion and Development of existing high schools project with Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development,” it added.

About the annual meetings

The Board of Governors of the World Bank Group and the IMF meet once a year to discuss the work of their respective institutions. It brings together central bankers, finance ministers, private sector executives, representatives from civil society organisations among others to discuss issues of global concern.
