The exhibition and conference is the flagship event of the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana (AHK Ghana) to help companies showcase solutions in renewable energy, water treatment and environmental management solutions.

The Delegate of the German Industry and Commerce in Ghana (AHK Ghana), Mr Patrick Martens, told the GRAPHIC BUSINESS in an interview, that about 1,500 visitors were also expected at WACEE’16, which will also feature a conference alongside with bespoke topics that fitted the country’s and West Africa’s peculiar situation.

Mr Martens, in the company of Messrs Michael Neulinger, renewable energy expert, and Daniel Merki of AHK Ghana, said this year’s event would also attract two specialised country pavilions – the German and Dutch Pavilions.

While the German Pavilion would showcase companies with solutions in renewable energy, the Dutch Pavilion would showcase solutions in water treatment and environment. It is the third time running that Germany has sent such a specialised pavilion to Ghana.

The North-Rhine Westphalia, part of the most industrialised parts of Germany, will also send a large delegation of exhibitors as part of its Sister-city relations it has with Ghana.

Mr Martens and his team were happy to disclose that there was also several Ghanaian companies which would exhibit at WACEE’16, but they are companies that the AHK had carefully assessed and selected to due to their well formalised structures and ability to understand the international business environment, saying “these are serious companies which honour their pledges and contracts.”

Conferences

The German technical cooperation (GIZ), Zoomlion and the Renewable Energy Association of Ghana (REAG) are some of the partners of the three-day packed conference would run simultaneously with the exhibition. Speakers are experts drawn from Germany and Ghana.

Some of the sub-themes include “Linking policy and practice – realising solutions for energy security, waste and the environment”, Challenges and Opportunities of Recycling End of Life vehicles and “Nurturing innovative solutions for inclusive businesses at the Base of the Pyramid”.

WACEE, here to stay

Mr Martens was also elated that “WACEE is coming back and we are glad that this event has now been institutionalised,”

Next year, AHK intends to organise the event in Lagos, Nigeria with participation from the regulars in addition to some companies from Ghana. This is to give the event a real West African character.
